I’m surprised but this buckwheat isn’t the first choice of the bees. They go to the rosy buckwheat and the asters first and now that those are about done they are finally visiting this.

This leaf cutter bee was getting up close and personal with the silver bush lupine.

Female Carrot Wasp – Gasteruption on buckwheat

I spied something large and long flitting around the buckwheat. When it hovered for a bit my first thought was dragonfly because of the long body but when I got a good look at the head, it looked more like a wasp. I was finally able to ID it as a female Carrot Wasp – Gasteruption. Fascinating critter.

Hummingbird at Fuchsia

The native fuchsias are just starting to bloom. This makes my hummers very happy.

Hummingbirds are so hard to capture when they are moving that it’s nice when they just hang out for a while and let me capture a lot of shots.

Black spider wasp on rosy buckwheat

I haven’t been able to get a detailed on this beauty but it’s a spider wasp who comes by at least once a day to feast on the rosy buckwheat.
